It cannot be argued that the fragrance of rose is sublime and it seems to stimulate a response within us. The response might be love, tenderness, wistfulness, serenity, joy. Our physical body may even spontaneously respond and align with rose’s healing energy.
The responses we have are as individual as ourselves. When we come into contact with rose, our olfactory system and the brain connect and communicate and we determine, often based on past memories and feelings felt, what attitude is being expressed for us in the moment we encounter rose.
The fragrance of rose elicits a state of consciousness within us.
We absorb its energy and frequency. We internalize it and become transformed, often even healed by it.
Rose may be the most perfect flower on earth.
The Damask rose, sometimes referred to as the king of flowers, is not only beautiful but unrivaled in fragrance. It has been well received and eagerly traded since ancient times. Growing about six feet tall and wide, the Damask rose grows on long bowing stems bearing heads of loosely cupped rose pink petals.
It is believed the rose originated from Damascus, Syria. The rose is currently primarily indigenous to Bulgaria (primarily in the Valley of the Roses), Europe, Iran, Turkey, Russia and India and with origins of Persia and Alexandria, and later in the sixteenth century, Europe, the Damask rose was in high demand especially since urban and personal foul smells needed to be masked!
Those who were able to produce rosewater and rose oil never lacked for business especially since rosewater was also known as a cure for all ills, an aphrodisiac and excellent for the complexion.
The Near East was a perfect cultivating ground for the Damask which required well watered land. They invented equipment for manufacturing rosewater, then scented rose oil and “attar” or “otto” which is the name for the precious essential oil derived from rose petals.
The Damask rose today is known not only for its fragrance but for the quality of oil it yields. The Bulgarian Damask rose is considered to produce the finest quality attar today.
In terms of Chinese medicine, rose is cooling and moist clearing heat and inflammation. It helps to restore the body’s yin energy and seems to be beneficial for anxiety and depression.

Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is la vie en rose
When you kiss me heaven sighs
And tho' I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose.
When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be la vie en rose.
